Sophie & JP – Vis Island Destination Wedding

One of those Wedding Films..

Vis is one of our favourite islands in Dalmatia, Croatia when it comes to destination weddings. It’s totally authentic, not as crowded as other Dalmatian islands and it has nature to die for – a destination wedding videographers’ dream. This destination wedding was no different.

Be prepared to be amazed by Sophie and JP’s  destination wedding adventure! This is one of those wedding films that you don’t forget easily.

They immediately knew that Croatia would be the perfect destination spot for their wedding.

JP and Sophie are true adventure seekers and their bodies simple urge for the sun, sea and travel, so it was no surprise that they chose this rustic destination for their wedding. They immediately knew that Croatia would be the perfect destination spot for their wedding abroad in Europe as Sophie has visited the Croatian island ten years ago. She simply fell in love with the Dalmatian coast and its beauty, tasty food and gastronomy, welcoming people and relaxed atmosphere.

Okay, we don’t want to get JP jealous, he also fell in love with Vis and the idea of a wedding in Croatia. While they searched for the perfect wedding venue in Croatia there was a vast variety of places that were perfect for their destination wedding, but there was one place that caught their eye as soon as they saw pictures on the internet – the famous Fort George. Fort George is a real fort that was built in 1812 by the British army to protect the island of Vis from the French invasion that was led by Napoleon. How appropriate, right? A perfect destination wedding place for our British couple.

Their adventurous spirit, fun personalities, their knowledge to throw a unique party that everyone wants to attend, the rustic feel and the panoramic sea view were something that attracted us too as we immediately knew this destination wedding will be fun to film and that we will have plenty of material to make a perfect wedding film for this couple.

A true celebrity

James is a true celebrity in the United Kingdom and if you live there, you probably heard of a guy who ordered a Kindle and received a tumor sample. The speeches at the wedding ceremony were so funny and emotional at the same time. I have to admit that the camera moved a couple of times, because I was laughing so hard that it was almost impossible for me to hold it steady. Luckily, we are professionals and brought our team of photographers and wedding videographers who managed to stay calm and film these, we would say, precious moments. Some of them you’ll be able to see in our destination wedding video above and on our official Vimeo and YouTube channels.

Sophie and James flew in from the United Kingdom with Hannah Hart, their wedding celebrant who happened to be the perfect person for this couple. She did a remarkable job and provided so much fun to our newlyweds and guests during the ceremony, which eased our job as wedding filmmakers. Hannah  gathered all the data about the couple and talked to their friends and family in order to “investigate” their history. She was perfect! Something we haven’t seen before.

The Wedding Preparations

The bride and groom had their wedding preps in the Villa Felis, a true traditional Croatian island house that was renewed in a unique, eclectic style with modern design, antique and ethnic furniture pieces. The Villa’s garden was one of the most fragrant we could sense with orange and lemon trees all over the place providing a perfumy scent and lots of shade. If only we could film the scent on our destination wedding films… There, you’ll find a spacious terrace where you can lounge all day, sipping coffee and reading a good book. It was like we were in heaven. The scenery for our cinematic wedding video was amazing and perfect.

During preparations, the bride and groom decided to gift each other; James got a book from Sophie, called “How it works: The Husband” by Jason Hazeley and Joal Morris, which was the funniest wedding gift we have ever seen. We were glad to see that the old “cold feet” socks present has been replaced with unique and personalised wedding gifts which provided us with even more personalised details to put in our cinematic wedding movie.

The Wedding Ceremony

Their guests arrived at Fort George and were offered welcome drinks. We had the chance to shoot the magnificent island and Fort George from the air with our drone camera. We managed to get plenty of material for our cinematic wedding video by filming all the beautiful nature surrounded by the shining sea.

While she was walking down the aisle, the couple’s good friend Pie Jim lead the singing and played the guitar. Then, both bride and groom, sang Can’t Take My Eyes off You by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons where their guests joined them in singing and adding a little flare to the song by “playing” song’s music on kazoos.  After the remarkable speech by Hannah Hart and couple’s vows all the guests stood up and sang Stand By Me by Ben E. King, with the help of kazoos again, of course. The most memorable ceremony we have ever seen and filmed for our destination wedding video.

We also have to mention Sophie and JP’s personalised decorations all over the venue.  Polaroid pictures of the bride and groom, their friends, family, their memories and special moments. Every tree was decorated with pictures which we immediately saw as an opportunity to shoot for our wedding film. They decided to have a gin bar for their guests and the wine and food that were served at the Fort was undoubtedly the best we could see. For their wedding cake they served a three-tiered cheese cake, which is a huge trend among brides today.

The party!

The fantastic DJ PhatPlastic, who was invited by Sophie and James from the United Kingdom, made a true funky atmosphere on the dance floor until 3 am. The party was so fun, the bride and groom and their guests painted their faces and wore different masks. It was fun to film such a wedding movie. And again, the wedding celebration ended too soon (for us) while the night was reaching its end and one of the most fun parties with some of the most fun couples rocking Fort George’s dance floor.

Sophie and James’ wedding was truly amazing. Blue skies, smiles, laughter throughout the entire wedding, sunny day all day, amazing food and wine and the crazy love of these two for one another. We enjoyed filming every minute of it. This is one of our favourite wedding films!
