19 Feb Canadian Destination Wedding In Dubrovnik and the island of Kolocep, Croatia
“To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” – Mark Twain
This is the sweet wedding story of Mira and Mike, who have something so special in a relationship that will surely last.
Take a look at Mira and Mike’s destination wedding video and enjoy the beauty of this couple’s love and devotion.
According to, well, almost all wedding blogs and magazines, Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the perfect place for destination weddings. There are so many couples who just got engaged and want to tie the knot inside the Old city walls.
On the other hand, Canada also has its perks with stunning locations from coast-to-coast and is one of the greatest countries to live in. With so many gorgeous wedding venues to choose from – country clubs, museums, barns or heritage properties, makes it so special and attractive.
So what do we get with a fun, young couple opting for Dubrovnik before Canada to say their “I-do’s”? We would say the most fun, amazing and not-so-traditional wedding we have ever seen.
Mira and Michael have different roots, Mira is Croatian, and Mike’s Canadian, so it was expected to see their guests arriving from Canada, but when we saw their friends and family come from all 4 corners of the planet just to be here for them and celebrate with their special day of love and joy – we were amazed.
Their fascination by the Dubrovnik itself, its walls, streets and people prevailed when deciding where they should get married – a most famous Croatian wedding location at the moment – Dubrovnik.
As soon as we met them in person we had such a great time with them and that’s when we knew that this wedding will be relaxed and casual. We instantly got the feeling that this destination wedding will be such a fun wedding to shoot and film and that their destination wedding video and photos will be splendid. As one of the bridesmaids said – “They’re good in having fun together” this is what makes the job of a destination wedding cinematographer even more fun and entertaining.
Wedding preparations
Michael and Mira booked a Villa In the Garden a luxurious 19th century villa that simply exudes with the contemporary style and Mediterranean sea. The Villa has a remarkable view of the Adriatic sea and gave the appearance of the old times when we had kings and queens which made shooting our wedding video even more enjoyable and easy. No wonder all European destination videographers and filmmakers love Dubrovnik.
Most of the photos of Mira’s preparation were taken inside the Villa, so we wanted to include the elegant rooms in our film too. Mira wore a tiered organza skirt and beaded bodice wedding gown by Badgley Mischka from the designer’s Fall 2015 collection. She looked perfect and glorious while standing in front of the large, sun-touched window, so we knew that we cannot miss this opportunity and film this scene. We also decided to add a bit of flare by calling her bridesmaids as their gorgeous dresses also added another personal touch and additional beauty to the scenery in front of the sunny window.
While Mira enjoyed in a relaxed preparation atmosphere with her bridesmaids, Mike took a somewhat different approach to the “casual” wedding preps. He and his groomsmen took advantage of a sunny weather and an outdoor pool which resulted in gorgeous and fun video scenes of every groom’s dream.
Wedding ceremony
Mira and Mike wanted their wedding ceremony performed at famous Dubrovnik’s St. Ignatius church. When it comes to choosing the most beautiful church in Dubrovnik for religious weddings this one’s at the top of our list as its paintings, the ceiling, the dome and the light itself is every wedding videographer’s dream. Picture perfect! The ceremony was perfect with emotional speeches on how important is to have a true partner in the life that comes and bride’s mother who read such an emotional traditional text about the wedding candle.
After the ceremony Mira and Mike had a leisure walk through the Ruđer Bošković Field, previously known as “Collegium Ragusin”. There was a boat that took them to the island of Koločep where they will celebrate their wedding at Villa Ruža, a Villa with the most beautiful terrace in the Dubrovnik.
Wedding celebration

Island of Koločep
Mira and Mike had their destination wedding celebration in one of the most romantic venues we have seen – Villa Ruža placed on the island of Koločep, one of the well-known islands in Croatia when it comes to its lavishing nature, hidden caves and a turquoise sea. The place has a long history, but it’s the view what is the most beautiful and interesting thing about this place. Filming a destination wedding at Villa Ruža was unforgettable and magical, every destination videographer’s dream. This is one of the most perfect wedding venues on the Adriatic Coast.
The first dance they had as a married couple was all but ordinary and boring. It was fun, acrobatic, so we really enjoyed filming it. When it was time for the cake, we were really surprised as they brought their cheese wedding cake to the next level. Yes, they had a real a three-tier cheese cake, which is a current wedding cake trend, something new we simply had to add to our wedding video.
The cloudburst chased Mira and Mike and their guests inside the villa, but that didn’t stop them to party like true rock stars, which we also showed in our wedding video. It’s obvious that Mike and Mira wanted all for their destination wedding and they surely had it all, from a great weather throughout the day with a clear blue sky and a gentle breeze you can have only in the Mediterranean, the lightening during the night celebration, great food and music and lots of people who followed them everywhere.
